Market Development Assistance Scheme

Taking Gujarat’s MSMEs to the Next Level: Market Development Assistance Scheme

Running a business today isn’t just about producing a great product –  it’s about being seen. For small and medium enterprises, that visibility can change everything. Exhibitions and trade fairs often become that turning point – where you meet buyers, connect with distributors, and build your brand.

To help local manufacturers capitalize on these chances, the Government of Gujarat introduced the Market Development Assistance (MDA) Scheme. The goal is simple: make it easier for MSMEs to participate in exhibitions – in Gujarat, across India, or even abroad – without worrying too much about the cost.

This initiative, managed by the Industries and Mines Department, helps businesses in the manufacturing sector expand their reach and get the attention they deserve.

A Quick Look at What It Offers

The Market Development Assistance Scheme runs under Resolution No. SSI–102020–332349–CH, announced on 1st September 2020

It’s specifically designed for manufacturing MSMEs that are registered in Gujarat. The government aims to accelerate the growth of such units by expanding into new markets and promoting Gujarat-made products globally.

Who Can Apply

If you run a manufacturing business in Gujarat, you’re most likely eligible. To qualify, your unit should:

  • Be a registered MSME in Gujarat.
  • Belongs to the manufacturing category.
  • Take part in exhibitions or fairs that fall within the scheme period.

It’s pretty straightforward – no complicated filters or hidden clauses.

How Much Assistance Can You Get

Here’s the breakup of financial help under the scheme:

  • State-Level Exhibitions: 75% of stall rent reimbursed, up to ₹50,000
  • National-Level Exhibitions: 75% reimbursement, up to ₹1,00,000
  • International (Within India): 75% reimbursement, up to ₹2,00,000
  • International (Outside India): 60% reimbursement, up to ₹5,00,000

So, whether you’re planning to display your products at a local event or an overseas trade show, the state covers a significant portion of your participation cost.

Key Rules You Should Know

Before applying, here are a few important points:

  • The subsidy is given after you’ve participated and submitted all supporting documents.
  • For international events, approvals must be obtained from official bodies such as the Ministry of MSME, ITPO, EEPC, or FIEO, and clearance must be secured from the State Level Empowered Committee (SLEC).
  • Minimum stall sizes matter —
  1. 100 stalls for State-Level
  2. 200 for National-Level
  3. 400 for International (Within India)
  4. 400 for International (Outside India), with at least 15% foreign exhibitors
  • The total combined support from State and Central Governments cannot exceed 75% of the total eligible cost.
  • Indian associations that host exhibitions abroad don’t qualify under this scheme.

These checks ensure the scheme is transparent and focused on real manufacturers.

How to Apply

You can apply online within six months of the exhibition’s conclusion.

The application is submitted to your local District Industries Centre (DIC), which reviews your documents, confirms your eligibility, and releases the approved subsidy – depending on available funds.

It’s a clean process on paper, but as many MSMEs know, even a small error in documents can slow things down. That’s where an expert can make your life easier.
